I love a good book! To me, reading a good book is right up there with eating a really, really good meal…that someone else paid for. It’s that g o o d! And if you get to share that with friends, even better! That’s probably why I think book clubs are just about the best type of gathering there is, especially in the summer. There’s usually a good book to chat about, friends, tasty bites and wine. WINE! Because every good book club needs wine!

For this book club meeting, The Dreaming Tree wines were the perfect partners to have around! Not only are they high quality, delicious wines at an affordable price point, but their Crush – a red blend – is amazing! And since I love all wines, I made sure to get The Dreaming Tree’s Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir too. Gotta have a variety!

I bought my Dreaming Tree wines at my local liquor store, because that’s where Colorado sells their wine, but if you’re outside of Colorado, check out your local grocery and supercenter stores. Or, to find where you can buy it – visit their website and type in your zip code. Because every good book club needs wine, and The Dreaming Tree wines are the perfect choice!

And bonus, these wines easily pair with some of my favorite book club recipes! Recipe is a loose term, because out the three recipes I have, only one of them requires cooking. But all of them are light, easy, delicious, and pair well with a good red…and a good book! I made Cucumber Hummus Bites, Goat Cheese Crips, and Bacon-Wrapped, Chorizo-Stuffed Dates – the recipes are all below!

Bacon-Wrapped, Chorizo-Stuffed Dates

Course Appetizer
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound chorizo
  • 15-20 whole, pitted dates
  • 5 slices regular cut bacon
  • maple syrup for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Line a jelly pan with parchment paper.

  2. Brown the chorizo in a saucepan.

Dump the chorizo onto a plate with a paper towel to catch the grease.

  3. Cut each bacon strip into thirds.

  4. Make an incision along one side of each date.

Spread the date apart and stuff as much chorizo that will fit into the date, and still allow it to close.

Wrap each date in one of the thirds of the bacon, and seal it with a toothpick.

  5. Bake about 6-7 minutes and turn. (You're looking for the bacon to crisp up on all sides.)

  6. Once cooked, drizzle each date with some maple syrup and serve.
