PA | Visiting Gettysburg

When we were in Pennsylvania, we took a little day trip to Gettysburg. It was the first time visiting for the boys, but me and my husband have been there before. Even if you’re not a war buff (I definitely am not), if you’re ever around the area it’s worth a visit. Not only is it beautiful, but seeing the battlefields and imagining what it was like for those three days, it’s a moment.

There is way more to Gettysburg than just the battle, but that’s why we were there so that’s all I’m talking about here.

The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is where you want to start. The current film – A New Birth of Freedom narrated by Morgan Freeman – is incredible, and the Cyclorama painting is legit. You can find a map for the tour that takes you to all the Gettysburg battle spots (we’ve always driven). And, if you schedule your visit right, you can see living history program.

When it comes to food, I’ve only eaten lunch here; at the Pub & Restaurant and here, and both were good. I looked at Frugal Foodie Mama for food recommendations, but since we’ve always done a day trip, my experience is limited.

ALL of my boys loved being around the canons and fields and rocks. They could have stayed their for hours, even with the overcast and drizzle.  I want to note that we did visit mid-February, which is the worst (dreariest) month out of the year for outdoor events in PA, but I’m kinda loving all of the pictures I got with the overcast skies.

Have you ever been to Gettysburg or any other Civil War battlefield?

Oo so pretty! It makes the fact that it was a massive battlefield in such a pretty place hit your heart just a little harder.

It would be fun to combo a trip with a few other historic sites too, like Williamsburg, VA if the time was there!

YES! I have been and loved it but always wanted to go back! It was really fun going when I was in 8th grade right after I memorized the Gettysburg address for a school project!
