I remember when we first got to Monterey, one of the first place I was so taken with was Asilomar State Beach. I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. It was definitely a different backdrop than what I was used to seeing on a daily basis, but clearly, beautiful.
Since we’ve lived in Monterey, Asilomar has been our favorite spot, especially when it comes to watching a sunset. It’s not always a guarantee that the fog won’t steal the final moments of the sun sinking into the water, but it is a moment when it’s just sun and water. We’ve made numerous trips to Asilomar for everything from picnic to bonfires and it’s one of the boys favorite spots because of all the rocks. It is going to be one of things we will miss most when we’re no longer ten minutes from this beautiful place.
If you’re coming to the Monterey Peninsula, make this your spot for trying to catch a sunset. Make sure to grab a glass of wine (there are some great local ones to choose from), a blanket, and a jacket (because it is always colder than you think it’s going to be).
It’s also has been a favorite spot of mine to use as a backdrop for family photos.
