California | Fern Canyon

If you’re headed to the Redwoods National and State Park (or near it), put this place on your list! It requires minimal effort to walk into the canyon, and it’s even possible to walk back through the canyon without getting your feet wet. And while it’s not a even a hike, it’s worth taking your time as you walk; enjoying your surroundings, throwing a few rocks in the stream. It’s the best kind of playground there is because there isn’t a trail. While you are in a canyon (so there’s walls), you’re free to climb and explore where you would like.

Ajax called this place magical and I don’t disagree. Ferns have a magical quality about them, especially when they’re covering the walls of a canyon! That has to be 100% the reason they shot some of Jurassic Park 3 here. Although I’m pretty sure they left some dinosaurs behind…

I’m obsessed with coordinating the boys outfits.  Occasionally, I just dress them alike, and love it every minute of it! Hah!  Those green shorts though, are the best for outdoor exploring! I love the fit and the material.

THINGS TO NOTE |
The mosquitoes were pretty bad, so maybe pack some bug spray!
They are doing construction on the road leading into the park, and will be apparently for the next five years, so be prepared to wait 30-45 to enter/exit as they have the road running as a single lane.
There is a pretty neat campsite next to the beach, if you’re in to camping!
This was one of my best resources when it came to California’s Northern Coast!

It’s beautiful! But everything about the northern cali coast is stunning too! Well, except maybe not the ‘avenue of the giants’ – it was cool, because Redwoods are awesome, but maybe not worth going out of your way for.

Such adorable pictures! It definitely looks like a magical place. And that stinks about the mosquitoes… that’s one downside of nature: the bugs!

hahaha right! I could ALWAYS do without the bugs. The place could use a few bats…

That canyon looks so cool. I’ve been in forests with fields of ferns, but never vertical walls of them. Awesome. Looks like the boys had fun too. Haha.

It was pretty cool! Jurassic Park III is the one that they filmed part of it there – I kinda want to rewatch it so see if I can spot the location.

It’s beautiful! And the beach beside it (close to where Fern Canyon was located) was pretty too!
